Processing
Our brass is first, machine sorted into caliber size then verified by hand for an additional measure. Once that is complete, its machine washed for three hours in a citric/acidic wash to clean the outside and dissolve any burnt powder inside the casing. We then dry and process the cleaned brass to resize and de-prime. After processing, we rewash in a solution mixed with steel media for another two hours to clean the primer pocket and catch anything the initial wash missed. Once the second wash is complete, its back to the dryer for 3 hours.
loading & first inspection
Our production ammunition is commercially produced on Mark7 automated loaders. All aspects of our ammunition are inspected by sensors to ensure all stages of loading is to spec. At Fortis Defense, we understand there is no room for error when producing ammunition that is why all produced rounds are not only inspected by sensors but also by eye to ensure consistency and uniformity.
Final Inspection/packaging
Everything from case length, width, overall dimensions, and primers are thoroughly inspected and QC’d. You will notice two blue marker lines on the base of each round. When the projectile is inspected, the first line is made and after the casing, base and primer is visually inspected, the second line is made, ensuring the customer each round has not only passed all sensors on the machines but a handheld visual inspection as well. During the QC phase, rounds are randomly pulled and live fired with a chronograph to ensure consistency within set parameters.
Once we are satisfied, we have a quality product, the ammunition is then packaged and heat sealed to prevent tampering and letting you, the customer, know our ammunition is direct from us to you.
