Basic land navigation course


Our Basic Land Navigation course teaches the fundamentals of Map and Compass Reading, Terrain Association and Obtaining your Pace Count. Our Basic Land Navigation Training course is appropriate for all ages and is a 1 day course.

Students will learn the basics of various compasses and learn how to read and use them. You will be introduced to a topographical map and compass. Training will also include how to establish and follow your azimuth as well as how to measure linear and non-linear distance. You will establish your walking and running pace count over various terrains. Attendees will receive practical application exercises on land navigation over terrain in instructor led routes.

For our Land Navigation course, you will go to the “Land Navigation” folder. There are a number of items listed in the folder but keep in mind, not all of these items are a “MUST HAVE” and therefore SHOULD NOT be considered mandatory. We do not require specific brands of gear. The gear listed is gear we have personally tested and vouch for and currently use.
